Year 3

Welcome to Year Three!


Welcome back, we hope that you had a brilliant summer break. We are looking forward to a busy year full on lots of new and exciting topics and activities! Keep checking the website for updates and pictures to see what we have been doing

Term One
Hakuna Matata


This term, we will be learning all about Africa! In our literacy we will be writing letters to an African Pen-friend as aswell as creating our own information texts all the animals found in the Masai Mara.
In topic we have already learnt about the difference between continents and countries and labelled the different 54 different countries in Africa. To find out more information on this fabulous please click on the topic web link below to find out what else we will be learning about.

WE WILL BE INVITING PARENTS IN TO VIEW SOME OF YOUR CHILDREN'S TOPIC WORK ON 22ND OCTOBER 2.30 ONWARDS

Term Two
The Vicious Vikings


Term Two is all about The Vicious Vikings! We will be using artefacts to answer questions about the Vikings and learning about their trading, raiding and invading. During D&T we will be designing and making Viking Longboats that replicate the real thing! If you have any tissue boxes to donate to help up with this project they will be greatly received!

In Literacy we will be looking at instructions and will write instructions using How to Train Your Dragon for inspiration. We will also explore arrays in Maths using Viking Warriers to help support this!
We will be having a Viking Day on 1st December where 'Portals from the Past’ will teach the children how the Vikings lived. They will take part in activities including playing a Viking board game, poetry and ‘Minting in the Woods’

Thank you for your support last term, we really appreciate all your hard work with your child's reading and mental maths skills. We will continue to give out homework on Fridays and again this needs to be returned the following Thursday.

Keep checking the website for information about this term, we will put on lots of pictures of our work. The topic web is also attached to give you more information on what we will be covering throughout the term.


Term Three
Vive La France!


Bonjour and welcome to Term Three where we will be learning all about France! We will complete lots of map work to learn of France's location in the world and also investigate it's different regions and human and physical features.

We will be using our English lessons to write information texts and create our own French Travel Brochure. We will the have our first unit on poetry and develop our understanding of descriptive techniques including alliteration. adjectives and similes.

France will also feature heavily in Maths where will be looking at and creating our own graphs to investigate and compare the different regions of France. However, we will start the term by continuing to develop our understanding of fractions

During this term we will be paying a visit to Sleaford Library to help us to investigate information texts. We will also be hold a French Day (linked to our Enterprise project) where you will be invited in to share the culinary delights your children have created. Look out for more details via ParentMail.

Term Four
What put the GREAT into Britain?


Wow! We can’t believe it is term four already! We are very excited to be finding out all about Britain and what made their nation so great! In preparation for the Queen’s 90th Birthday, we will discover why Britain is great, explore our values, the royal family, The Commonwealth and how we are work closely with other countries.

We will be performing our very own Britain’s Got Talent in PE and come up with our own Cheerleading Routine and also holding the Commonwealth Games in PE after learning lot of track and field events.

Term Five
Stone ‘N Bones


In topic we are going right back to where it all began – The Stone Age! We will ask questions of the past through our own archaeological dig, discover what is was like to live, understand the importance of hunting and find how man has evolved. We will experience what it was like to scavenge for food, stew food, convey meaning through cave paintings and find out about Stone Henge.

We will begin English by looking at adventure stories and follow those that follow a similar theme of falling down a hole, including Alice in Wonderland, The Tunnel and The Stone Age Boy. We will use these as inspiration to create our own adventure story and even us the ipads to create our very own movie trailer for it! Look out for these at the films awards!

It will be another busy term in Year Three so we appreciate all your support. Please help your child learn their timestables, read their books and also use mathletics and spellodrome. We are really grateful for all you do J


Term 6
Exploring Lincoln


We can’t believe that it is our last term in Year 3! This term we will be exploring Lincoln. We will find out all about past events in Lincoln, including The Magna Carta, historical buildings and the importance of Lincoln during The War. This will also include why Lincoln Castle is hosting Wave, the tour of The Poppies. To link in with our topic, we will be exploring pneumatic systems in DT. The children will design and make their own moving dragon/beast which will incorporate a pneumatic system using a syringe or balloon.

Our English topic will be all about Legends. We will find out about different legend stories and use these as inspiration for our own ideas! In maths we continue to focus on number and written calculations looking at multiplication and division. Look out for lots of problem solving with arrays!
