Striving to be the best we can!
Welcome to the Year 5 class page!
We're now in Term 6 and our very last term of Year 5! During this term, we will be continuing to explore the invaders and traders of Britain, but this time with a focus on the Tudor era. This exciting topic begins with the starting of the Tudor dynasty at The Battle of Bosworth and continues through time to explore the important events during the reigns of Henry V111 and Elizabeth I.
We're sure that this will be a great end to our time together!

Useful Information for parents
This term, we will send out a letter detailing the whole term's homework. We ask that you support your child to return homework by the due dates specified in the letter. Homework will consist of maths and English tasks relating to learning in class. Every other week, we will set Times Tables Rockstars tasks. Don't worry if you don't have access to this at home because there will be opportunity for your child to complete this at school if necessary.
You can find a copy of the homework letter in the 'Documents' section below.
In addition to formal homework, we ask that you continue to listen to your child read on a regular basis and that you discuss what they have read with them. This will help enormously when they come to quizzing at school.
Spellings will also be sent home and your child is encouraged to learn these over the week ready for a test on Fridays. These spellings are taken from the focus of lessons that week.
We would also like your child to continue learning their times tables. A letter will be sent home explaining the process and can be found below for your reference.
This term both classes will be doing two sessions of ourdoor PE. These w ill be on Tuesday and Thursday.
Please could you ensure that your child has the correct kit at school on these days. They will also need their kit ready for sports day this term.
Trainers rather than plimsolls are advisable as we will be on the school field whenever possible and this can get muddy (even in the summer!)
It may be worthwhile leaving the kit at school at all times. We will make sure that it comes home at the end of term for washing or sooner if it gets particularly muddy!
The 11+ practice club will start this term on Wednesday 18th April at 8:00am.
The children will be collected from the main entrance by one of the year 5 teachers.
Please remind your child to bring along the practice books as shown in the consent letter.
During the sessions, we will look at the different question types and strategies for answering these. Your child will then have the opportunity to practice these same question types in their books at home in between sessions. These sessions are not designed as 'coaching sessions' but are the opportunity for your child to become familiar with the structure of the test in a relaxed atmosphere.
We suggest that your child may wish to complete some of the practice tests under timed conditions in addition to these sessions.
