Term Six

A Whole New World

Where will the Magic Carpet take us?

This term, we will be learning about the Arabian Desert. We have so many exciting things planned including using our crafting skills to create desert animals, imagining where a magic carpet ride may take us and re-creating the traditional tale in our role play areas- Widow Twankey's Launderette.
Also this term, we will be preparing the children for their move to year two. There will be opportunities for the children to meet with their new teacher and time to talk about the transition.

Week 1
This week, we have been practicing our phonics. We have fished words out of water, dug them from the sand and played lots of games. We are ready to 'wow' next week! In Maths, we have been learning about fractions. The children grasped this concept really well and have been halving and quartering shapes and numbers. To begin our new topic, this week we have been getting crafty! We have made parrots which will fly around the classroom and amazing desert sunset collages. Photographs of the classroom- coming soon!

Week 2
We have been Phonics Stars this week! The children did amazingly well in their Phonics Screen as they worked their socks off! The results of these will be within your child's school report.
Also this week, we had a visit from the 'Gribblybugs'. Tim bought us some minibeast to look at which fit in perfectly with our Science topic based on animals. Some of us were brave enough to hold cockroaches, millipedes and even stroke a tarantula! Wow! After that, we made a wormery using sand and soil. We had to hold on tightly to those wriggly worms to get them into their new homes.

Week 3
Our Sports Day was on Monday. It was extremely hot but we still enjoyed our day! The children took part in activities in the morning then we had races in the afternoon. They showed great perseverance! We have been partitioning numbers this week and have shown how fabulous we are at ordering numbers to 100. Well done everybody! Also this week, we have had a visit from the Foundation children who came to see what life is like in year one. We were buddied up with a younger child and showed how kind and helpful we are.
