Striving to be the best we can!
This week we have been learning all about the three little pigs. After listening to the story, we talked about why we thought the brick house was the only house that survived the Wolf's huffing and puffing. This inspired us to make our own straw, stick and brick houses. We tried really hard to make sure our brick and stick houses strong but it was still the brick house that was the strongest!
In English, we have been learning about letters and why people send letters. We pretended to be the wolf and wrote sorry letters to the little pigs.
In Maths, we have begun our learning on 'teen' numbers. We used counters, numicon and base 10 to make the different 'teen' numbers and we now know that 'teen' numbers are ten and some more.
This week we have been learning about animals and their babies. We have learnt the names of common farm animals and their babies. To support this learning, we went on our first school trip. We had such a lovely time at Rand Farm and we all behaved beautifully! We really enjoyed feeding the animals, holding baby chicks, stroking rabbits & guinea pigs, watching a cow being milked, going on a tractor ride and bottle feeding lambs. Some of us even slept on the bus on the way home!
After such an exciting day, we wrote some fantastic recounts of our school trip!
In Maths, we have been practicing counting carefully with numbers to 20 and recognising them.
What an exciting start to the week - they caterpillars have arrived! We can't wait to watch them grow and turn into butterflies!
We have been learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly and have written about each stage so we will be experts by the time our butterflies emerge.
In Maths, we have revisited addition. We know that when we add, our numbers get bigger. We are now practicing adding by counting on.
We have continued our learning on butterflies this week by thinking about their habitats. This very quickly turned into learning about the habitats of lots of different kinds of minibeasts. We loved going on our minibeast hunt and thinking about how we can look after the minibeasts and their habitats.
In Maths, we have revisited subtraction. We know that when we subtract, our numbers get smaller. We are now learning how to subtract by counting back,
We can't believe that it is the last week of term 5 already! The year is just flying back! But what a super week we have had to finish a super term!
This week, we have been learning all about Cinderella. We have listened to and retold the story, using story language such as 'Once upon a time...' and 'They lived happily ever after.'
In Maths, we have learnt to double numbers and find 1/2 a number. We really enjoyed learning the double rap and understand that halves have to be the same size, otherwise it's not fair!
The highlight of this week, has been making our ugly sister cress heads. Fingers crossed they grow over half term!
