PE and Sport Premium

The Sports Premium Grant is additional funding from the Government to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. It is also for improving the health and wellbeing of primary pupils.

We have been working with Carre’s Grammar School to increase the quality and breadth of the PE and Sport that we offer at St Botolph's CofE Primary School. Staff have been supported in developing their skills and knowledge via regular visits from PE specialists. The Premium has allowed for the provision of National Governing Body qualified coaches to visit our school and work with our staff and children. This year we are looking forward to having a Physical Literacy coach working with Years 1 to 4. In Year 5 and 6 they are having a specialist coach to develop the children's skills they have learnt and developed..

In light of the new curriculum we have restructuring our PE curriculum to show progression of skills.  In KS1 the focus will largely be refining multi skills for examples ball control, catching, throwing, sending and recieving.  In KS2 the children will focus on using these skills in a game context with the final result being to develop game tactics and what is needed to win. At the end of each scheme of work the children take part in a house v house competition to put in to practice the skills they have learnt.  This is part of Our Sainsbury's School Games initiative and the teams receive points that get added up during the year!
