This term we have looked at our bodies and how they are ‘marvellous machines’. We explored our senses to see how we can’t cope with them as well as learning a bit more about how our bodies work and naming parts of our body.
In Art we have been learning about self portraits and have been practising creating our own. We have used different media and our work is displayed in the corridor, so come and see our wonderful portrait gallery.
In RE we have been discussing why and how we celebrate. The children had lovely memories of being at birthday parties, weddings, christenings, bonfire and Christmas parties. Reverend Sandra will be coming into school soon to lead a proper christening service using our school font and the children will learn about the Christian symbols and traditions used during the service.
In Numeracy we try to make the lessons fun and practical using a range of equipment. So far this term we have done lots of counting and ordering of numbers. We have just started to write addition and subtraction number sentences. We also used our counting skills to help us measure using non-standard equipment.
In Literacy we read the Funnybones story and helped put the skeletons back together again and we labelled parts of the body and other objects. We have just had a fun week touching spaghetti and then making our own spaghetti pictures and writing adjectives to describe how it felt. When learning how to follow and write instructions, we got to make jelly and rice crispy cakes. The best part was eating them - yummy!!
On 16th October, we invited our grandparents to come in and experience life as a Year 1 child. They seemed to have a good time playing on the whiteboard and doing all of the activities.
