In Maths, we will consider the allotment and vegetables that grow in them when we are learning about dividing, fractions and addition and subtraction word problems. We will also be focusing more on our Phonics this term, learning through activities inside and outside the classroom, such as digging for sounds to make words, 'hook a word' and using magnifying glasses to read tiny words! Please continue to hear your child read as this is essential for them to practice their sounding out and blending ahead of our Phonics Screening Check - we know the children will continue to work their socks off!

Other activities linked to our Science, Geography, Art and Design & Technology subjects will involve learning about minibeasts and their habitats, planting broad beans, using the printing technique with fruit and paint, designing and making our very own fruit salad and designing a new garden for the school... we can't wait to get our hands dirty!

Weekly Update:

We hope you all have a lovely half term break, we return to school on Monday 3rd June.

Week One

Welcome back! We hope you had a great half term break. We have had a lovely first week back and have been very busy. We started off the week by learning all about the different coins used in the UK. We identified which coins were used the UK and which coins were used abroad. We also learnt about the value of each coin. Later in the week, we learnt all about UK notes. Any additional learning you can do with your child to consolidate this learning would be beneficial, thank you for your continued support. In English, we have had a phonics focus this week. The children have really impressed us with their knowledge of the sounds and ability to blend sounds in real and alien words. We have also been using fruits to print in our Art lessons and using these, we created a still life collage. They have brightened up our classroom! Next week, we are going to be learning about position and direction in Maths.

Week Two

Year 1 have worked so hard this week! Every child has blown us away with their fantastic blending skills when reading real and alien words in Phonics. We are so proud of each and every one of them, well done! In Maths we have been using positional language including right, left, first, second, third etc. We have also made some beautiful desert pictures, magic carpets and Father’s Day cards. In Science we have started classifying animals e.g. mammals,  reptiles, amphibians etc. The children have really impressed us with their super subject knowledge!

Have a wonderful weekend (we hope the weather improves!) and we will see you for another busy week on Monday!

Week Three

Year 1 have had another busy week. This week, we have been learning about numbers to 100. The children have been using the base ten equipment to make numbers and have been using the vocabulary 'tens' and 'ones'. In English, we wrote descriptions of the desert and edited our own work at editing stations. We used different coloured pencils to add in any missing punctuation, check our writing made sense and to up level our sentences. The children also described their favourite place. It was lovely to read them! The next couple of weeks are getting pretty hectic so please keep your eyes peeled for updates on the website!
